This drink is so darn yummy- and light! If you're cutting cals in cocktails, it's ideal. What it reminds me of is a more sophisticated, better tasting vodka & soda (and why did that drink ever get popular? Read: boooring). This drink can be as sugar-free as you like, in three different ways. I'll post all the methods below. (It's also a fun mock-tail for a baby shower because you can simply leave out the vodka for the mama and it still tastes fab.)

Notes: Tonic water is Canada Dry. Vodka is Tito's.
STRAWBERRY SMASH VODKA TONIC
Ingredients: 4 medium strawberries-diced, 2 shots vodka, 4 oz. tonic water, ice.
Makes 1.
Method #1, Standard:
1. Heat strawberries in a small saucepan over medium heat with 2 tsp. sugar. Mash with a fork and cook for 5-7 minutes until mushy.
2. Tip strawberries into the bottom of a glass and add vodka. Stir. Add the ice and top with tonic water. Garnish balance a slit strawberry on the edge of the glass if you like.
Method #2 Sugar Free-ish:
1. Heat strawberries in a small saucepan over medium heat with 1 tsp. coconut sugar or maple syrup. Mash with a fork and cook for 5-7 minutes until mushy.
2. Tip strawberries into the bottom of a glass and add vodka. Stir. Add the ice and top with tonic water. Garnish balance a slit strawberry on the edge of the glass if you like.
Method #3 Really Sugar Free:
1. Heat only strawberries in a small saucepan over medium heat. Mash with a fork and cook for 5-7 minutes until mushy.
2. Tip strawberries into the bottom of a glass and add vodka. Stir. Add the ice and top with sugar-free tonic water. Garnish balance a slit strawberry on the edge of the glass if you like.
