STRAWBERRY SMASH VODKA TONIC (sugar-free optional)

This drink is so darn yummy- and light! If you're cutting cals in cocktails, it's ideal. What it reminds me of is a more sophisticated, better tasting vodka & soda (and why did that drink ever get popular? Read: boooring). This drink can be as sugar-free as you like, in three different ways. I'll post all the methods below. (It's also a fun mock-tail for a baby shower because you can simply leave out the vodka for the mama and it still tastes fab.)

"This drink livens up your dull mood. I speak from experience."

Notes: Tonic water is Canada Dry. Vodka is Tito's.

STRAWBERRY SMASH VODKA TONIC

Ingredients: 4 medium strawberries-diced, 2 shots vodka, 4 oz. tonic water, ice.

Makes 1.

Method #1, Standard:

1. Heat strawberries in a small saucepan over medium heat with 2 tsp. sugar. Mash with a fork and cook for 5-7 minutes until mushy.

2. Tip strawberries into the bottom of a glass and add vodka. Stir. Add the ice and top with tonic water. Garnish balance a slit strawberry on the edge of the glass if you like.

Method #2 Sugar Free-ish:

1. Heat strawberries in a small saucepan over medium heat with 1 tsp. coconut sugar or maple syrup. Mash with a fork and cook for 5-7 minutes until mushy.

2. Tip strawberries into the bottom of a glass and add vodka. Stir. Add the ice and top with tonic water. Garnish balance a slit strawberry on the edge of the glass if you like.

Method #3 Really Sugar Free:

1. Heat only strawberries in a small saucepan over medium heat. Mash with a fork and cook for 5-7 minutes until mushy.

2. Tip strawberries into the bottom of a glass and add vodka. Stir. Add the ice and top with sugar-free tonic water. Garnish balance a slit strawberry on the edge of the glass if you like.
